Get set St.Ewe to waste less and recycle more
Get set, St.Ewe. We’re nearly ready to press ‘go’ on your new weekly food waste and fortnightly rubbish collections.
The new service starts in your area from mid-January.
Food waste collections will help you to recycle up to 35% more of your black bag rubbish. And to help us all waste less, we’re also introducing a limit on the amount of rubbish we’ll collect from people – up to 180 litres fortnightly, or what fits in your new wheelie bin or reusable protective sack with the lid closed.
The changes will cut Cornwall’s annual carbon emissions by nearly 18,000 tonnes of CO2 each year. That’s a saving of about the amount of CO2 that a car would kick out driving round the world 2,547 times.
The new service will give all of us a way to contribute directly from home to the creation of a thriving, sustainable Cornwall that offers a great environment for all.
How you can get set for your new collections:
- If you’re not recycling yet, get started now. Visit cornwall.gov.uk/getrecycling. The new service will use the same coloured recycling bags and black box system that we do now, and you can order these on our website.
- If you’re already recycling a bit, make sure you’re recycling as much as you can, as this will help you to keep within the new fortnightly rubbish limit. Visit cornwall.gov.uk/recyclemore.
- When your new food waste and rubbish bins arrive – we’re delivering to homes in your area between October and December – make sure you read your ‘Get Set’ instruction leaflet inside your green collection caddy.
- Write your house number or name on your new green food waste collection caddy and rubbish bin or sack when it arrives.
- Don’t use your new bins until the new service starts.
- Sign up for a new service text message reminder by visiting cornwall.gov.uk/wastechanges.

- Look out for your ‘Go’ New Collections Calendar, arriving in the post in December, and check the date of your last collection on the old service and your new collection day, as most people’s will change.
