The St Ewe-bilee Picnic added to the euphoria of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday by providing a local event on Saturday afternoon/evening which was enjoyed by all ages from St Ewe Parish and beyond.
Our new marquee proved to be perfect for the occasion together with our two smaller Gala tents which housed the Cake Competition and the Bar. The adult cake competition was won by Charlotte and Emily Coon for their crown-themed cake, complete with a cheeky corgi. As there were only two entries for the children’s competition they were each crowned as winners from the Fuggles and Fraser families. Much cake was subsequently enjoyed!
The Fisherman’s Chippy was very popular with their range of fish/sausage and chips. Barney Potter, Richard Lockyer, Wayne Edwards and Martin Wheeley played a warm-up set before the group photo.
After the photo had been taken The Whippletree Ceilidh Band played many foot-tapping tunes at ever increasing speeds throughout the evening, finishing with a loudly-demanded encore. Once a few children had ventured onto the dance floor and shown the adults that there was nothing to fear, it didn’t take long for everyone to get in the swing of following the caller’s instructions. Whippletree were kind enough to say that they thought the whole community had turned up, the atmosphere was fab and that they had never had so many people on the dance floor in 7 years of playing. They’d love to play for St Ewe again. Hopefully we will be able to give them that opportunity again in the future.
The occasion showed how fortunate we are to have a community who are able to put on events of this magnitude and enough people in the vicinity who are willing to come along and enjoy themselves. Many thanks to all concerned whatever their involvement in making this such a success.
